Victory Park is what happens when a city tries to build a neighborhood from scratch. The land was industrial rail corridor until the late 1990s. The master plan called for a dense mixed-use urban neighborhood anchored by the new arena. The 2008 recession hit Victory Park hard — buildings sat vacant, retail failed. What you see today is the second attempt, better-informed and better-capitalized. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science, one of the most architecturally significant buildings in Dallas, anchors the northern edge. The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge frames the western horizon. And somewhere in this neighborhood, the next chapter of Dallas is being written in steel and concrete.
